Embedding VC Newsletter - August 2025

August 2025 NEWSLETTER

Hi friend,

August was full of breakthroughs big and small, and the AI world didn’t sit still for a second. GPT-5 launched — do you think it really feels like a “PhD-level expert in your pocket,” or is it still catching up to the hype? On the visual side, Google’s Nano Banana quietly impressed. Hope you’ve been having fun turning photos into custom miniature figures with those viral prompts! As summer shifts into planning season 📆, we’re carrying that same mix of curiosity, play, and momentum into the fall ✨.

Welcome to the August edition of the Embedding VC Newsletter, where we provide insights into the latest developments in our portfolio and the AI ecosystem.

Autograph officially launched to the public last week! Don’t miss their moving, movie-like launch video.

From Roger:

“When I first watched this video a few days ago, my eyes welled up 🥹. This isn’t just the best product launch video I’ve ever seen — it captures the true spirit of what Autograph is.

Autograph 📖 is not only a powerful product, but also a reminder that AI is more than just about boosting productivity. In the hands of visionary founders like Cristian Cibils Bernardes and Santiago Racca, AI is infused with soul. It’s about creating magic that touches people ❤️.

Proud to be an early believer, and even prouder to witness this journey.”

From Jianing:

“My mom once asked me: what if one day I can’t be there to wish you a happy 60th or 70th birthday? She thought maybe she should record videos in advance, one for each year, so I could always hear her voice saying happy birthday.

Today, Autograph officially launches to the public, and I think that longing at the deepest level is the same. Even when someone is no longer physically present, they can still whisper “I’m proud of you” from beyond the veil.

I’ve always believed AI is not only about reshaping the future, but also about preserving what makes us human. And on this Chinese Valentine’s Day, it feels like no coincidence — love is eternal. ”

🌟 We’re very proud to be part of the journey and are more than excited for what’s ahead.

🎤 Builder Spotlight

Rachel Hu (center), Co-Founder and CEO of Energent.ai

Lingjie (Kimi) Kong (right), Co-Founder and CTO of Energent.ai

Meet the founders

Rachel Hu is the Co-Founder and CEO. Her journey began at age 12 with a clever RPA hack, which sparked a lifelong passion for automation and real-world problem solving. After years at AWS as a Machine Learning Scientist, Rachel realized that models alone don’t drive impact but usability does. This insight led to the founding of CambioML (Energent.ai). Rachel’s ethos—"fall in love with the problem, not the solution"—guides her mission to build AI tools that are not just technically impressive, but actually work in the wild.

Kimi (Lingjie) Kong, Co-founder and CTO, brings deep technical experience from leading AI organizations. Before Energent.ai, Kimi worked at Google DeepMind, AWS, and Microsoft, where he contributed to cutting-edge research and large-scale systems. He holds dual master’s degrees in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Founder Fireside Chat - Q&A with Rachel

Q: What inspired you to start Cambio (Energent.ai)?

A: I’ve been building things since I was a kid—my first taste of “shipping” was at 12, when I hacked together a website for a public-vote contest and learned how scrappy execution beats perfect plans. That early bias for action stayed with me through my years working in ML, where I kept seeing the same bottleneck: brilliant teams losing 60–80% of their time to messy, unstructured data before they could do actual science or analytics. Cambio (Energent.ai) is my answer to that pain—turning chaotic documents into trustworthy, structured signals so researchers and engineers can focus on discovery, not data janitorial work. The mission is simple: make AI a reliable teammate for R&D and analytics tasks. That’s the through-line from my earliest “hack” to a company purpose-built to accelerate real work.

Q: What are you most excited about for the next three years?

A: Help everyone turn curiosity into decisions that matter.

On the product side, we’ll deepen the AI analytical agent—ultra-simple input, intelligent processing, instant value—so one sentence yields clean data, the right visuals, and trustworthy predictions. We’ll scale Energent.ai 2.0 features users love: a vibrant Template Marketplace, collaborative dashboards, and a plain-English Custom Metrics Builder—plus a polished mobile app so insights travel with you. On the platform side, I’m excited to open the API and embeddable reports so Energent shows up in webpages, internal tools, and community sites—your “business data analyst,” anywhere.

Q. What have you enjoyed about working with Roger and Embedding VC?

A: Roger and Embedding VC are genuinely AI-native partners. They move at founder speed, but they also bring depth—on model evaluation, data strategy, and the decidedly unsexy GTM mechanics. I value Roger's crisp feedback loops (fast reads on experiments, clear “stop/scale” calls), targeted intros to customers and technical advisors, and pragmatic help on hiring. Roger in particular has a builder’s mindset—he engages on first principles rather than chasing hype—and he’s been consistent about opening doors without adding process. For an AI infra company, that combination of technical literacy and hands-on support is rare and incredibly useful. It felt less like “capital” and more like an extension of the team, aligned around shipping reliable, measurable value.

📍 Event Recap

Roger spoke at Stanford alongside Philip Rathle (CTO, Neo4j) and Jing Conan Wang (Founder, DeepVista AI & FounderCoHo) on the theme of AI personalization and context modeling. We had a full room of founders, investors, and researchers exploring how to move beyond today’s limited chatbot interactions toward smarter, context-aware systems.
